After 38 years of committed service, our beloved “Pastor Joe” retired on July 31, 2016. Interim pastor, Rev. Ron Schlak, will likely be with us for at least a year. We are so very fortunate to have this wonderful, experienced leader to help shepherd us while we search for our permanent pastor. Please stop in and say to hi Pastor Ron!
Born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 8, 1950, Ron Schlak was the oldest of four children. He felt the call to be a pastor in his junior year of high school. He met his wife Vickie
when he was doing pre-seminary study in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Vickie was studying to be a nurse at Lutheran Hospital there.
Vickie now is a nurse at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick. Ron and Vickie live in Adamstown, MD. Ron and Vickie have three children – Dan, Tim, and Amanda. Dan is a patent engineer and lives in Alexandria, VA. Tim is the director of the library at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh. Amanda is a chief resident at Children’s Hospital in Richmond, VA. So far, Ron and Vickie have four grandchildren (Dena and Kristeen, Collin and Evan). Ron and Vickie spend every available minute with these four people.
Trinity is the fourth church Ron has served as pastor. He pastored St. John Lutheran Church in Palatka, Florida for seven years, St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Monessen, Pennsylvania for 12 years, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Charleston, West Virginia for seventeen years. Until recently, he served for four years as Assistant to the Bishop of the Delaware Maryland Synod.
Ron loves to ride bikes. He spends a lot of time on the C&O Canal bike trail between Harper’s Ferry and Point of Rocks. Several years ago he and two other Lutheran pastors rode a bamboo bicycle built for three to every one of our church’s sixty five synods (in other words – almost every state of the Union) and raised $400,000 for Lutheran World Hunger.
