LETTER TO THE CONGREGATION - Dear Congregation, Playing, practicing, and worshiping with the many people who have been a part of the choir and the congregation, has brought me great joy over the past 12 years, but it is time to take a break from the directing of the contemporary choir.
There are some things in my life that I am hoping to have time to do that are related to music and many things I would like to do that aren’t. I am looking forward to pursuing some of these interests.
I would like to thank the many people of the choir and of the congregation who have been supportive of this ministry and singing praises to Christ.
When the choir began, we first started with a couple of guitars and soon added a harmonica. As time progressed, we used a variety of voices and instruments. From banjos to mandolins, from a plethora of guitars to a covey of keyboard players, from congas to bassoons, and drums to rain sticks, finding the right instrument has never been a problem. We have had over 45 people be a part of our choir over this time frame.
We have changed our musical style, enjoyed a huge repertoire of music, hosted our annual Christmas concerts, played at Shafer Park and BHS, and even made our own CD.
Working with all of the kids and watching them grow up has been great, but watching the adults learn to stretch themselves, sing some solos, and try things that were outside their comfort zone was just as rewarding.
I would like everyone to know that serving the church and worshipping with you as the contemporary choir director has been one of the great honors of my life.
In Christ, Jeff

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION PLANNING MEETING
Come join the Christian Education team on Monday, August 30, at 6 pm in the Funk Education Building and help us plan the events/activities for the upcoming year. Thank you in advance for attending!
CHILDREN'S CHURCH - Our Children’s Church Program at Trinity is a wonderful ministry to our young people ages 4 through grade 3. Children’s Church is offered the 3rd and 4th Sunday’s of the month as part of our 10:15 A.M. worship service. Volunteers are needed! Please consider leading 2 Sundays a month so that we are able to continue this ministry. Please call Cindy Hutchinson at 301-432-2602 or cinhutch@aol.com. Thanks so much!
JOYFUL NOISE CHOIR
Children ages 3 and older are encouraged to participate in the Joyful Noise choir. We practice the last 15 minutes of Sunday school and sing to the congregation on the 4th Sunday of each month. We are seeing a significant drop of older children and would love them to participate so that we could sing more age appropriate songs but we need parents to encourage your child(ren) to participate or at least try it. If we have older children we will be able to sing the songs the children have enjoyed from past Vacation Bible Schools. Please talk to your child about it and encourage them to give it a try. Our first debut will be on Sunday, October 24th. Any questions, please call Laura Iager at 301-739-4885 or Jen Poffenberger at 301-432-0456. We would love to have your children sing with us!
** Sunday School Teachers (Students age 3 through grade 3); Please encourage your students to come and sing with us. If they don’t like it or are not participating we will allow them to return to their classroom but encouragement is needed. Thanks so much!
WE'D LIKE TO GET TO KNOW YOU!
J. Gilbert "Bus" and Frankie Everline have been in the pews here at Trinity for nigh on 64 years! They raised two daughters, Kathy and Penny, and their son, John, in the church. Today, they have six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren spread hither and yon.
The Everlines have lived out on Barnes Road for many years, returning to the area after an assignment in West Virginia with Potomac Edison. Their favorite memories of Trinity include the many Halloween, Christmas and Easter parties they assisted with, as well as remodeling projects, and their joint teaching/guiding of the teenagers in Sunday School and Luther League for more than 10 years. Bus has been involved in both choirs at one time or another, and served on the council. Bus has also provided many original written and visual art pieces for special occasions within our congregation.
It was Frankie's family affiliation with Trinity that originally brought them to Trinity so many years ago (she was confirmed 77 years ago at this altar). Frankie has served as a teacher and director of the primary Sunday School, sang in the women’s choir, taught confirmation, and prepared countless meals.
The Everlines are good neighbors, good friends, and good servants of God. If you don’t know them yet, make it a point to do so!
BOONESBOROUGH DAYS COMMUNITY WORSHIP
The area churches of Boonsboro will sponsor our annual Boonesborough Days Community worship service on Sunday, September 12 at 10:00 AM in Shafer Park. The New Creation Choir from Benevola United Methodist Church will provide special music. The speaker will be the Rev. Mary Dennis. The pastors of congregations from southern Washington County will participate in the service.
The offering for the day will support the Southern Washington County Emergency Fund. Please bring a lawn chair and enjoy the service.
CONVERSATION WITH THE BISHOP
Our Bishop-elect, The Rev. Wolfgang Herz-Lane will be available for a Mission Conversation meeting in our Conference (and open to the surrounding area) on Saturday, September 25th, from 10 AM to 11:30 AM at Trinity-Hagerstown. This will be an opportunity for our members to meet our Bishop, very soon after his Baltimore-installation, but with time for face-to-face conversation and closer to home for our members. Watch for more details about these meetings, soon. We hope you will begin your questions, hopes, and concerns, along with your interest in the new Bishop's approach to oversight and ministry among us and join us for that meeting.
MAR-LU-RIDGE CAMP & RETREAT CENTER WALK-A-THON
Annual Fundraiser, Reunion, Cookout, Program
SEPTEMBER 26, 2010 - 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm
This year, Mar-Lu-Ridge celebrates its 51st year of ministry, and we ask for your help by sponsoring a walker in our very popular WALK-A-THON. This is a major fundraiser for Mar-Lu-Ridge, a facility of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, founded in December 1958.
Because of the generosity of hundreds of people last year, about $15,000 was donated to the five-mile Walk-a-Thon at Mar-Lu-Ridge Camp & Retreat Center, near Jefferson, Maryland. This year our goal is $45,000. Sunday, September 26, walkers will climb down and up the ridge in response to sponsors like you. Of course you are welcome to come as a walker/sponsor and round out the day with a great free cookout, fun and fellowship. Sorry if you live in Texas, Colorado or Nebraska!
The funds raised at the Walk-a-Thon will go toward camperships for those unable to afford the cost of camp, and to maintain and upgrade our aging facilities. Check out our website: www.mar-lu-ridge.org .
Mar-Lu-Ridge provides the chance for kids from different backgrounds to get acquainted with one another and experience and appreciate the wonder of creation. Your generosity helps make that contact with the good earth possible for these children. Your contribution will also allow us to spend more money effectively advertising our facility to a wider audience. I hope we can count on you to sponsor a walker?
ADULT RETREAT
Join other members of Trinity for a day-long adult retreat from 9 AM to 4 PM on Saturday, October 2 at Haven Lutheran Church in Hagerstown. The retreat leaders are Roy Oswald and Joe Donovan. During the retreat, we will explore ways we can become closer to God through the practice of such spiritual disciplines as prayer, meditation, etc. We will discover what prevents us from experiencing God’s presence in our lives and share our faith stories with each other. The cost of the retreat is $20. Each participant will bring a bag lunch; beverages will be provided. You may register for the event by filling out one of the registration forms or talking with Pastor Donovan.
BLESSINGS OF PETS
Join us on Sunday, October 3 at 2 PM for a service of blessing for our pets. We invite you to bring your pets (please, no snakes or deadly spiders!) on a leash or in a cage. We will meet on the back lawn or in the social room, if we have inclement weather. Following the service, we’ll enjoy refreshments for both people and pets.
CROP WALK THIS FALL
CROP (Christian Rural Overseas Project) provides food for hungry people internationally and within our own community.
