Trinity Evangelical Lutheran in Boonsboro has restored its carillon function, also known as chimes, that will strike two times daily in town. Dedicated in 1871, Trinity’s building at 64 S. Main Street had a carillon for many years in its steeple and town residents recall hearing the chimes when they were children.

The carillon was removed during a major renovation at the church in 1956 but starting today, chimes will once again be heard at Noon and 6pm, followed by a brief hymn.

Hoping that the new electronic carillon will add a little beauty to each day, Trinity sees it as a gift to the town, reminding us of our shared history, community spirit and favorite hymns. Perhaps it can also be a brief moment of time to reflect on positive things or give a prayer of thanks for our many blessings.

The carillon was installed by Church Specialities, a third generation bell installation/renovation company in Vermont.

It’s important to Trinity to use our buildings to serve the community of Boonsboro.  Our social hall is utilized for a variety of community group meetings and dinners, as well as housing the South County Food Pantry.  Our former parsonage building houses the Micah’s Backpack Program and offers a Blessing Box on the porch.  Our new outdoor pavilion built last summer is allowing Trinity to host more social functions for the community, including Bingo, Halloween party, Summer Day Camp and now a Community Picnic on August 26th.

Over time, we will have the opportunity to tweak musical selections and volume of the carillon.  If you have any suggestions you’d like to share, feel free to email us at hello@trinitylutheranboonsboro.org.
